Ndemi Lane Apartments Kilimani

The project involves the construction of a 9-storey reinforced concrete building containing 18 residential flats with a basement parking level located on Ngong Road, Nairobi, Kenya.
Structural Engineering: Gathara Consulting Engineers carried out the design which consisted of reinforced concrete beams and columns with hollowpot slabs due to the spans. The foundations are pad foundations. the building also has a lift core.
The site is unique as it has two rock strata with two bearing capacities. This was taken into account during the design of the pad bases, with approximately half the building having a different foundation solution. Lateral stability to the building was provide via the columns being designed to take the wind loads.
Also the site was in a tight location and the foundations had to be done in two parts due to access and storage of materials.
